Rehabilitation of Upper Canal (Zeda Arkhi) irrigation scheme will be implemented in Bolnisi municipality
With co-funding of the Government of Georgia and financial support of the World Bank, the rehabilitation/modernization project of Upper Canal (Zeda Arkhi) irrigation scheme will be implemented in Bolnisi municipality. The mentioned project was presented in “Georgian Amelioration” ltd and attended by Gigla Tamazashvili-General Director of “Georgian Amelioration” ltd and the World Bank representatives -Trevor David Beaumont (Project Manager) and Prajesh Shrestha (Irrigation Engineer).
Number of meetings were held with the representatives of Bolnisi service center and local farmers, to ensure that the project is maximally tailored to both operational requirements and customers’ needs.
The project incorporates main recommendations of “Georgian Amelioration” ltd, namely maximizing the coverage of irrigation areas through a closed pipeline network, installation of pressure regulators, introduction of new technologies, enabling real-time monitoring of amelioration schemes and identification of irrigation areas with high accuracy. Furthermore, the project includes rehabilitation of headworks and inverted siphons, installation of direct water outlets and arrangement of facilities along the main canal to ensure livestock watering.
As a result of the project implementation, irrigation and drainage schemes will be significantly improved, facilitating the increase of agricultural production.
