Gigla Tamazashvili: “Implementation of large-scale projects is planned in the near future, which will significantly improve irrigation water supply quality”
Gigla Tamazashvili-General Director of “Georgian Amelioration” Ltd assessed the reforms implemented in the company and the recent update of the tariff policy.
According to him the tariff policy had remained practically unchanged over the past 14 years, resulting in the tariffs that no longer reflected real costs or the modern challenges in the sector.
“Irrigation is one of the key foundations of agricultural development. Both crop yield and product quality directly depend on it. In recent years, the need for changes in this field has become evident and the reform process has started with the update of the tariff policy.
Within the reform, the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission, considering operational costs, has set a new tariff, which will ensure efficient distribution of water,” -Gigla Tamazashvili said.
He also highlighted the importance of rehabilitation of amelioration infrastructure, which requires significant financial resources. As he mentioned for this purpose up to GEL 85 million has been allocated by the government.
“Implementation of large-scale capital projects is planned both in eastern and western Georgia in the near future which will significantly improve service quality and facilitate infrastructure development,” the General Director mentioned.
Gigla Tamazashvili emphasized that the ongoing reforms aim to increase amelioration schemes efficiency, improve services and facilitate sustainable development of agriculture.
