Gigla Tamazashvili: “The new irrigation tariff will ensure creation of a stable, safe and predictable amelioration scheme and provide efficient services for farmers.”
Gigla Tamazashvili-General Director of “Georgian Amelioration” Ltd has made an explanation with regard to the new irrigation tariff.
“The new tariff model which will come into force from April 1, will enable us to use water resources more rationally. This is particularly significant to ensure accurate water accounting. It’d be noted that the tariff in place in the country until now was set 11 years ago and no longer reflected the current reality. Under the old tariff, a farmer used to pay GEL 75 per year, which did not correspond to the mechanism for rational water allocation. In reality, the expenses “Georgian Amelioration” undertakes to provide services to farmers correspond to the tariff that has recently been approved,” -Gigla Tamazashvili mentioned.
According to the General Director of Georgian Amelioration, the main goal of the tariff change is to create and maintain a stable, safe and predictable amelioration scheme, which will ultimately ensure more proper and efficient services for farmers.
It’d be noted that GNERC (Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission) has established the price of 1 m3 of water at GEL 0.0826.
