Rehabilitation works of amelioration infrastructure in Guria region
Otar Danelia-Minister of Agriculture, Gia Salukvade –Governor of Guria region and Levan Dvali –General Director of “Georgian Amelioration” ltd inspected ongoing rehabilitation works for removal of excess water, on the adjacent territory of the River Pichora, in Lanchkhuti municipality.
As a result of works, which will be completed in 2017, excess water will be removed from 2 900 ha of land area, thereby enabling population of 10 villages of Lanchkhuti municipality to use the land for agricultural purposes.
Total cost of the project amounts to GEL 1 272 000. Rehabilitation works are carried out by “Georgian Amelioration” ltd under the Ministry of Agriculture.
“Amelioration is the key direction for agricultural development. With this regard, Ministry of Agriculture is actively working. In Guria region, after cleaning works of 18 km long canal, local population will have opportunity to use up to 3 000 ha land area for agricultural purpose, that hasn’t been used for decades. This will facilitate to the development of agricultural sector” –Otar Danelia mentioned.
Since 2012 present, 5 rehabilitation projects of amelioration infrastructure have been completed in Guria region, with total cost of GEL 2 150 000. As a result of rehabilitation works, area of drained land has increased from 2 800 ha up to 3 300 ha. At this stage, 2 rehabilitation projects are underway in the region with total cost of GEL 1 720 406. After completion, area of drained land will increase by 3 100 ha in addition.
As of today, “Georgian Amelioration” implements 22 rehabilitation projects all over Georgia, with total cost of GEL 32 254 527. As a result, water supply will be improved on 15 900 ha, irrigation –on 8 751 ha, while drained area will increase by 8 725 ha.
