Cleaning works of the Pichori Riverbed

Works on the Pichori Riverbed, envisaging cleaning of the riverbed and berms from surplus sediment, trees and bushes are underway in Lanchkhuti municipality.  Works for removal of excess water are under completion. As a result of the works undertaken, surplus water was removed on 2 900 ha of land area. Up to ten villages of Lanchkhuti municipality shall use the aforementioned territory for agricultural purpose.

Archil Bukia-General Director of “Georgian Amelioration” ltd, Tengiz Lakirbaia -Deputy General Director  and representatives of GA regional offices inspected the ongoing works.
For the last 6 years, total of 9 projects of amelioration infrastructure have been implemented in Guria region, resulted in drained area -1695 ha; removal of surplus water on 3 520 ha. Nowadays, 4 rehabilitation projects are in progress in the region that shall ensure 1 400 ha additional drained land area.

The Pichora Riverbed starts from the Japana village of Lanchkhuti municipality and flows into Paliastomi Lake. Its total length amounts to 46 km. Proper operation of drainage schemes mainly depends on the river condition. Pichora River represents major inlet for surface waters, as well as for 6 pumping stations of the drainage scheme, located on its right embankment.
