Rehabilitation of the River Rioni regulating hydro-scheme

“Georgian Amelioration” ltd under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, initiates rehabilitation of the River Rioni regulating hydro-scheme, near Poti town. George Chkheidze –Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and Archil Bukia-General Director of “Georgian Amelioration” ltd visited the object.
The project, firstly envisages the lift of ten gates of the dam and fixation in open condition. Restoration works shall be carried of the regulating hydro-scheme, consisting of dam and sluice gate. Depreciated electrical equipment shall be replaced, mechanical parts of gates shall be restored, the structure shall be repaired and service office and adjacent territory shall be developed. Under the design, all works shall be carried out to prepare the structure, in case of potential floods, to discharge maximum flows to avoid water logging of Poti town and Khobi municipality villages and agricultural land plots. The cost of rehabilitation amounts to -GEL 1 367 815.
The object was transferred into ownership of “Georgian Amelioration” ltd on December 1, 2017.  The Company carried out respective works for examination of the ongoing situation.  Detailed studies revealed that the structure required immediate rehabilitation.
Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Governor, Mayor of Poti town and Chairman of Municipal Assembly also visited the object.  The watershed of the River Rioni, at Poti town, commissioned since 1952, is comprised of dam and sluice gate. The structure is two-tier. Function of the dam is to discharge the River Rioni flood flow (4000m3/s) to Nabadi, north of Poti town, while the sluice gate shall supply 400 m3/s of discharge to the canal, for prevention of Poti town riparian area from washing.
