Rehabilitation of distribution canal D-14 of Gardabani irrigation scheme
George Chkheidze- Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Levan Dvali-General Director of “Georgian Amelioration” ltd and Paata Khizanishvili –Governor of Kvemo Kartli region inspected the progress of the works.
“Rehabilitation works were initiated in September, 2016. As a result of the project implementation, by 2018 irrigation season, supply of irrigation water will be improved on 900 ha of agricultural land area. Since 2012, agricultural land area has actually doubled in Kvemo Kartli region, due to implementation of 23 rehabilitation projects of amelioration infrastructure” –George Chkheidze mentioned.
According to Levan Dvali –General Director of “Georgian Amelioration” ltd, 9, 3 km long section of the canal will be restored, new culverts and water outlet gates will be installed. Consequently, population of 3 villages of the municipality will benefit from the improved irrigation service.
The project is designed for double purpose, as the rehabilitated distribution canal will facilitate to regulation of water level in Jandara Lake and diversion of water in the Kura River to avoid water logging of adjacent territories.
“Implementation of this project will facilitate to solve the problem of three villages. Furthermore, water logging is observed on adjacent territories of Jandara Lake in spring and by implementing this project we’ll be able to avoid this problem”-Paata Khizanishvili mentioned.
