Restoration-rehabilitation of Bakurtsikhe pumping station

“Georgian Amelioration” ltd under the Ministry of Agriculture implements rehabilitation of pumping irrigation schemes of the village Bakurtsikhe in Gurjaani municipality, Kakheti region.

Prior to initiation of rehabilitation works, David Galegashvili –Deputy Minister of Agriculture and representatives of “Georgian Amelioration” ltd met with the locals of the village.  At the meeting, Levan Dvali –General Director of the Company made a presentation of the pilot project and introduced advantages of sprinkler irrigation schemes to the locals.

Based on consultations with the villagers, it was decided that after completion of rehabilitation works water users would use modern irrigation technology -sprinkler irrigation devices to irrigate 580 ha of agricultural land plots. Sprinkler irrigation is much more profitable than the traditional, flooding irrigation method, due to less electricity and irrigation water consumption. Furthermore, it significantly increases agricultural yield and improves quality.

Rehabilitation of Bakurtsikhe pumping irrigation scheme has been initiated in June of the current year and will be completed by the end of the same year.

Total cost of the project amounts to GEL 1 341 655.

As of today, “Georgian Amelioration” ltd implements 28 rehabilitation projects of amelioration infrastructure all over Georgia, including 8 in Kakheti region.
