Rehabilitation of drainage system in Samegrelo
“Georgian Amelioration” LTD of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia implements the first phase of rehabilitation works of Chaladidi drainage system on interfluvial area of rivers Rioni-Khobi in Khobi Municipality of Samegrelo Region.
The Minister of Agriculture of Georgia Mr. Otar Danelia, together with the Governor of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Mr. Levan Shonia, the Deputy Minister Mr. Levan Davitashvili and the General Director of “Georgian Amelioration” LTD Mr. Levan Dvali, got acquainted with the progress of rehabilitation works on the territory of Patara Poti and inspected the rehabilitated pumping station of Chaladidi drainage system. As the Minister of Agriculture Mr. Otar Danelia noted, more than 5 million Georgian Lari is spent on rehabilitation works of amelioration infrastructure in Samegrelo Region. Besides canals, pumping stations have also been rehabilitated. As the General Director of “Georgian Amelioration” LTD has announced, after full restoration of Chaladidi drainage system, , the population of Khobi Municipality will be able to use about 250 ha land area with agricultural purposes by 2017. Currently, “Georgian Amelioration” LTD implements 7 projects in Samegrelo Region, and 26 projects of rehabilitation works throughout Georgia. As the Governor of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Mr. Levan Shonia has announced, such large-scale rehabilitation works in amelioration direction have not been carried out in Region for nearly 30 years.
Since 2012 till today, 17 rehabilitation projects of drainage systems have been completed in Samegrelo Region. As a result, drained agricultural land area has increased up to 16 000 ha.
