Natural Disaster in Samegrelo region
Minister of Agriculture of Georgia Otar Danelia together with the representatives of local authorities visited disaster affected villages in Samegrelo region in order to be acquainted with the damages caused by the natural disaster. The loss estimation committee is working on the ground to assess the costs of the disaster. Heavy rainfall seriously affected villages in Martvili, Senaki and Abasha municipalities, thousands of hectares of agricultural lands are damaged due to a recent flooding.
Ltd. “Georgian Amelioration” provided disaster affected areas with reclamation technique, which is widely used in recovery works, the main drainage channels should be cleaned to get rid of excess water from flooded areas. Director General of Ltd. “Georgian Amelioration” Levan Dvali and representatives of local government together with the Minister of Agriculture participated in the rehabilitation activities in Senaki district.
,, The situation is critical and large amount of losses are expected, about two thousand hectares of agricultural land was completely affected by flooding in village Akhalsopeli, Senaki district. At this point, the water is drained and flooded area includes the remaining 600 hectares. Reclamation technique is used to ensure the drainage of flooded areas " - said Mr. Danelia.
Torrential rains caused rivers to swell, floods have cut off the roads, which were connecting a number of villages to each other, several residential areas and agricultural lands were flooded in the past few days in West part of Georgia - Adjara, Guria, Samegrelo and Imereti regions. The Prime Minister of Georgia instructed Government representatives to visit each region affected by the natural disaster and implement disaster relief works in a coordinated manner.
