Rehabilitation of Andjeli Drainage Channel

The population of three villages will be able to implement agricultural works at about 500 ha land area in Abasha Municipality. “Georgian Amelioration” LTD implements the rehabilitation of drainage systems in the village Ketilari of Abasha Municipality. The Minister of the Agriculture of Georgia Mr. Otar Danelia, the General Director of “Georgian Amelioration” LTD together with the representatives of the local government got acquainted with the rehabilitation works progress and met with the local population. The project of Ketilari drainage channel, which amounts of 400 000 Georgian Lari, will be finished in August, 2016. Drainage channel of 32 km will be cleaned within the rehabilitation works. As a result of rehabilitation works, drainage service will be restored at about 500 ha land area of three villages. The works are carried out within the II phase of Andjeli drainage system rehabilitation. “Restoration-rehabilitation of amelioration systems is one of the main priorities of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia. As a result of the rehabilitation works in last 4 years, ameliorated area has increased from 45 000 ha to 106 000 ha. By the end of current year, this number will be increased. Implementation of Andjeli channel rehabilitation is very important for Samegrelo Region. Over the years, such a large-scale rehabilitation works have not been carried out in the Region. Within the project, 100 km of drainage channel will be cleaned and local population will be able to use 1500 ha land area with agricultural purposes” – noted Mr. Otar Danelia. In the Region of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti drained area has increased to 16 540 ha in 2016. For nowadays, 4 rehabilitation projects of amelioration infrastructure of 2 936 950 Georgian Lari are in progress and after completion drained area will be increased to 1 550 ha.
