“Georgian Amelioration” ltd reinforces control over illegal use of irrigation water
The 2025 irrigation season is in its active phase.
“Georgian Amelioration” ltd has launched enhanced control over illegal use of water, aiming at effective use, proper management and distribution of available water resources.
For using irrigation water in compliance with the rules set, farmers shall contact relevant regional offices and service centers of Georgian Amelioration and sign an agreement on water use. For additional information, the company operates a hotline (hotline number: 2 00 10 00).
Georgian Amelioration calls on water users for planning water consumption period in advance, following the approved regimes.
Receipt of irrigation water is allowed only according to the previously agreed water use schedule. The use of irrigation water without an agreement is an illegal act and envisages fining, in line with the Code of Administrative Offenses of Georgia. Seisure of irrigation water from the amelioration scheme will result in a fine amounting to GEL 250 (two hundred and fifty) for an individual, and GEL 500 (five hundred) for a legal entity. Reccuring acts will result in a fine amounting to GEL 500 (five hundred) for an individual, and GEL 1000 (one thousand) for a legal entity.
Furthermore, it’d be noted that the amount to be reimbursed to “Georgian Amelioration” ltd for water consumption without an agreement on water use schedule is GEL 247 per 1 ha for annual crops, while GEL 216 per 1 ha for perennials.
Properly operating system of irrigation water supply is an essential condition for high quality agricultural production.
