Irrigation water supply regimes for 2025 have been approved
The irrigation sector became the fourth regulated sector to fall under the regulation of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission. The regulatory commission ensures the regulation of relations between sector participants.
Within the regulation framework, “Georgian Amelioration” LTD has approved irrigation water supply regimes for 2025 for each irrigation system under its ownership.
The regimes specify the period and frequency of water supply according to annual and perennial crops.
The approved water supply regimes and water supply schedule are accessible to everyone, ensuring fair water distribution and setting correct expectations.
Before approving the irrigation water supply regimes, Georgian Amelioration organized public discussions by respective regions to review the forecast regimes of irrigation water supply. At these meetings, farmers had the opportunity to submit their proposals regarding the forecast regimes published under the new regulation.
The company maximally considered water users' opinions regarding changes to the forecast regime.
The company conducted public discussions in all four regional offices, where all interested parties had the opportunity to participate.
The water supply regimes were approved in accordance with Article 40 of the "Irrigation Water Supply" rules approved by Resolution No. 39 of August 30, 2023, of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission and Article 4 of the Order No. 2-686 of August 30, 2023, of the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia "On Approval of the Rules for Determining Water Supply Regimes and Irrigation Norms."
