Working meeting with the World Bank mission team

Tamaz Mgebrishvili- General Director of "Georgian Amelioration” ltd held a meeting with the World Bank mission team, where the activities scheduled within the "Georgia Resilient Agriculture, Irrigation and Land Project" (GRAIL) were discussed.

The mentioned project will be implemented with the participation of the Government of Georgia and the World Bank. The project will last six years and its budget amounts to USD 150 million.

The project envisages rehabilitation-modernization of 5 irrigation schemes in Eastern Georgia and one drainage scheme in Western Georgia, as well as the implementation of institutional reform in order to improve functioning of "Georgian Amelioration” ltd.

As a result of rehabilitation of amelioration schemes, irrigation services will be improved on more than 25 thousand hectares of land area.

At the meetings, the parties discussed "Georgian Irrigation Sector Development Roadmap", which is a set of strategies, assessments and programs for the implementation of the 2023-2029 action plan activities of "Georgian Amelioration" Ltd.

The discussion also referred to the complex institutional reform program, the importance of promoting establishment of Water User Organizations in the "Georgia Resilient Agriculture, Irrigation and Land Project", as well as the instroduction of field-level leadership within the framework of the "Georgia Resilient Agriculture, Irrigation and Land Project".

The mentioned program was successfully implemented in several countries of the world and provided for the development of such skills through trainings that will help to identify leaders at the level of head office and service centers of the company.

The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture,  GNERC,  World Bank project implementation unit, World Bank experts and the management of "Georgian Amelioration” Ltd.
