" Georgian Amelioration" LTD of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture is implementing rehabilitation of Zeda Ru irrigation system in Shida Kartli

Rehabilitation of the main channel is underway in Kareli municipality, which in total includes the restoration of main and water distribution channels of 52 km length and their lining with cast in-situ reinforced concrete, the arrangement of closed network of 7 km length and the installation of various hydraulic structures.

The project with the cost of 24 million GEL is implemented with the financial support of the World Bank (WB).

As a result of the performed works, the irrigation water supply will be improved on the area of more than 2500 hectares of agricultural land of the villages Kvemo Nikozi, Sakasheti, internally displaced persons’ (IDP) settlement of Sakasheti, Pkhvenisi, Shindisi, Variani, Sasireti, Arashenda, Ruisi, Urbanisi, part of Breti farm.

First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Giorgi Khanishvili got acquainted with the rehabilitation and construction process of the irrigation system together with the General Director of "Georgian Amelioration" LTD Tengiz Nasaridze, and the Manager of World Bank's "Irrigation and Land Market Development Project " Lali Durmishidze.

"The most important task for us is, the farmers to receive water stably and be able to increase the average yield per hectare, both on annual and perennial crops. World Bank projects, which serve to rehabilitate main and internal distribution networks, have been implemented for the last 7-8 years; With such projects, we were able to increase the number of water-provided areas from 40,000 to 160,000 hectares.  Thanks to these projects, our farmers receive water to more areas stably " - said Giorgi Khanishvili.
