Otar Shamugia got acquainted with the results of implemented and ongoing works locally on amelioration facilities in Kvemo Kartli

The Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Otar Shamugia visited Marneuli. The Minister, together with the State Representative to Kvemo Kartli Giorgi Dokhturishvili, got acquainted with the results of implemented and ongoing works locally on amelioration facilities and met with the population. The amelioration company carries out large-scale works on its own.

As a result of large-scale restoration works, carried out by “Georgian Amelioration” Ltd., after a 30-year pause the irrigation system was activated in the village of Shaumiani. The population of Shaumiani and Khikhani will use irrigation water for the first time after three decades.

"Restoration and rehabilitation of amelioration infrastructure is very important. We carry out large-scale projects in this direction, thus enabling farmers to produce quality, high-value products. We have completely restored the irrigation infrastructure in Marneuli Municipality, for which the investment of some million GEL has been implemented.This year, we discharged water for the first time, after 30 years. More than thousand hectares will be water provided" - said Otar Shamugia.

At a meeting with the local population in the village of Partskhisi, the Minister mentioned that as a result of landslides due to heavy rainfall, the repairing works of the damaged pipeline on the Tbisi-Kumisi irrigation system are intensively underway and water supply will be restored in the nearest future.

"We inspected the ongoing works in Tetritskaro municipality. Due to landslides, the pipeline is out of order. Everything is being done to restore the system very soon - equipment and labor force are also mobilized. There are all conditions for providing irrigation water to the population very soon"  - mentioned the Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture.

"Amelioration of Georgia", taking into account the recommendation of geologists, is carrying out restoration works intensively. This irrigation system provides water supply to approximately 3500 hectares of agricultural land ares in 17 villages of Kvemo Kartli region.
