“Georgian Amelioration” Ltd of The Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture is implementing rehabilitation of Kvemo Samgori irrigation system in Kakheti
The rehabilitation of secondary distributaries of the right main canal is underway in Sagarejo Municipality, which envisages the arrangement of a 128 km length of closed pipeline and the installation of various hydraulic structures.
The project with the cost of 26 million GEL is implemented with the financial support of the World Bank (WB).
As a result of the carried out works, the irrigation water supply will be improved on more than 5000 hectares of agricultural land area in the villages of Sagarejo - Ninotsminda, Giorgitsminda and Tskarostavi.
First Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Giorgi Khanishvili got acquainted with the rehabilitation and construction process of the irrigation system together with General Director of “Georgian Amelioration” Ltd. Tengiz Nasaridze and WB Irrigation and Land Market Development Project Manager, Lali Durmishidze.
"In the near future, we will have a well-functioning system, which is distinguished by the fact that it exists the first attempt to start irrigation of areas with a closed scheme, on which drip irrigation systems will be installed. This is a model used by the developed countries of the world. These systems take care of the ecology, save water resources and promote the development of a green economy," - said Giorgi Khanishvili.
