Amelioration infrastructural projects in Samtskhe-Javakheti
Otar Shamugia-Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture, along with David Tsitlidze-General Director of “Georgian Amelioration” ltd, Nino Tsilosani -Chairman of Agrarian Issues Committee of the Parliament and Anton Obolashvili - Samtskhe-Javakheti Majoritarian MP have got acquainted with the current situation on irrigation schemes in Samtskhe-Javakheti and elaborated long-term development plan.
During the visit, the parties assessed the amelioration infrastructural projects that have already been implemented in Akhaltsikhe, Aspindza and Adigeni municipalities. The measures to be taken for restoration of irrigation schemes in the region and the issues of their full operation were discussed.
The projects have been planned with the involvement of local government officials, which will start at the end of irrigation season.
These projects are aimed at supporting local farmers, as the improvement of amelioration infrastructure will facilitate to the increase of high-quality yield.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry and the relevant offices of the company.
Since 2013 up to-date, 26 rehabilitation projects of infrastructure have been implemented in Samtskhe-Javakheti region. As a result, more than 10,000 hectares of agricultural land area can be irrigated regularly, while irrigation water supply has been improved on 2,400 hectares.
