Large-scale rehabilitation of drainage scheme has been implemented in Kazbegi municipality

Population of Kazbegi municipality villages - Sno, Achkhoti and Goristsikhe used to suffer from surplus water problem for several decades due to failure of the drainage scheme, making it impossible and ineffective to run agricultural activities in the land- scarce region.

On the request of the regional administration, “Georgian Amelioration” ltd  under the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture has implemented large-scale works for the solution of the aforementioned problem.

Nowadays total of 6, 5 km long drainage canal has been cleaned, collecting inlets have been repaired, and however in many cases newly re-constructed; the entire drainage infrastructure has been aligned.

As a result, surplus water has been removed from 45 ha of area, thus enabling to use the land for agricultural purposes.

In order to get familiar with the works undertaken and meeting with the local population, Sozar Subari –Advisor to the Prime Minister on regional issues, Iuri Nozadze –Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture, Shalva Kereselidze- State Representative- Governor in Mtskheta-Mtianeti region, David Tsitlidze-General Director of “Georgian Amelioration” ltd and Otar Shamugia –Director of Agricultural and Rural Development Agency have visited Kazbegi district.
