Rehabilitation Projects of amelioration infrastructure in Kakheti

The General Director of "Georgian Amelioration" LTD of the Ministry of Environment protection and Agriculture of Georgia Otar Shamugia got acquainted with the ongoing works on Amelioration systems in Kakheti.

Otar Shamugia inspected the irrigation system of Kvemo Alazani in Signagi municipality, where the rehabilitation works are underway on the sections of the main canal and its hydro power plants. Carried out works will improve irrigation water supply on 9 300 hectares of agricultural land area.

Rehabilitation of 28 km section on the same water supply system in Gurjaani municipality and the works of 15-kilometer open system, turned into a closed network, are underway. As a result, water supply regime will be improved on 1 330 hectares of land plot in the villages Chumlaki and Kitanani.

Reconstruction works are also carried out to Vakiri drainage collector. The canal of 9 km length is being cleaned from sediment and tree-bushes.

These works will provide protection of the surrounding land plots and rural roads from flooding during abundant rainfall.As of today, “Georgian Amelioration” LTD is implementing 12 rehabilitation projects of  amelioration infrastructure in Kakheti, after completion of which, in addition 1 830 hectares of agricultural land area will be irrigated, irrigation water supply will be improved at 9 500 hectares of land plots and the drained area will be 3 000 hectares.
