Meeting in Marneuli Municipality City Hall
Tengiz Lakirbaia-Technical Director of “Georgian Amelioration” ltd presented to Zaur Tabatadze – Marneuli Municipality Acting Mayor and city hall representatives in administrative units the design for arrangement of Shaumiani-Khikhani new pumping station on Imirasani main canal, as well as for rehabilitation of the existing Arkevani pumping station.
Within the project pumping station, pressurized pipelines, water division boxes, water collecting and other amelioration structures shall be installed. According to the design developed by “Georgian Amelioration” ltd the pumping stations shall facilitate to the supply of irrigation water on 1060 ha of agricultural land area of three villages.
For implementation of the project installation of drip irrigation systems by the population is the necessary component, ensuring rational distribution of the existing water debit. In case if needed the amelioration company is ready to provide technical assistance to the local population.
Drip irrigation system is much more profitable than the traditional flood irrigation, as requires less el. energy and water resources and fertilizers. Furthermore, application of drip irrigation systems facilitates to the increase of agricultural crop yields.
Saving water is especially significant if considering lack of rainfall within irrigation season that is respectively reflected on irrigation schemes water debit.
Estimated cost of the project amounts to GEL 3 920 000. In case of locals’ support and willingness to apply contemporary irrigation technology-drip irrigation systems, the project implementation shall be initiated this year.
