Rehabilitation of Imirasani irrigation scheme is underway

Supply of irrigation water shall be improved on 2600 ha of agricultural land area in Kvemo Kartli region.

“Georgian Amelioration” ltd under the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture carry out rehabilitation of headworks and main canal of Imirasani irrigation scheme

Otar Shamugia –General Director of “Georgian Amelioration” ltd, Shota Rekhviashvili-State Governor in Kvemo Kartli region and David Sherazadishvili- Mayor of Bolnisi Municipality have inspected the ongoing works and met with the local population.

Within the project, gates of flushing gallery, together with the hoisting mechanisms shall be replaced on the headworks, located on the Mashavera River and metal lattices shall be installed as well.

 5, 5 km long reach of the Imirasani main canal shall be rehabilitated. The existing earth canal shall be lined with concrete. The works are in progress on two locations. Earth trapezoidal section canal, passing by the compact settlement area of the village Tchapala, shall be replaced by concrete rectangular profile canal.

Furthermore, water intake unit, water intake unit with water logging structure, distribution well, motor and foot bridges shall be arranged on the canal. The rehabilitated irrigation scheme shall facilitate to the improvement of water supply on 2 600 ha of agricultural land area of the villages Tchapala and Savaneti in Bolnisi municipality.   

For the last 6 years, “Georgian Amelioration” ltd has implemented total of 39 rehabilitation projects of amelioration infrastructure in Kvemo Kartli region. As a result water has been supplied on additional 23 473 ha of agricultural land area, while supply of water has been improved on 22 517 ha.
