Rehabilitation of Vartsikhe and Tobanieri irrigation schemes
“Georgian Amelioration” ltd under the Ministry of Agriculture is implementing rehabilitation project of Vartsikhe and Tobanieri irrigation schemes in Imereti region. Rehabilitation is underway on the main and secondary distribution canals, open drainage –collector network and existing hydraulic structures. Within the project main canals of Vartsikhe and Tobanieri irrigation schemes, with total length of 15 km will be rehabilitated; different types of typical outlet structures, culverts, and buried steel and reinforced-concrete pipelines will be arranged. Collector networks with total length of 6,5 km will be restored. The existing earth canal of Tobanieri scheme will be partially lined with cast in-situ concrete. As a result of the works undertaken, up to 820 ha of agricultural land area of 5 villages (Rokiti, Didvela, Vartsikhe, Tsitelkhevi and Rokhi) will be supplied with irrigation water. Archil Bukia-General Director of “Georgian Amelioration” ltd, together with the representatives of local authority inspected the ongoing works. The project with total cost of GEL 2 196 280 will be completed by 2018 spring.
Since 2012, 17 rehabilitation projects of amelioration infrastructure have been implemented in Imereti region. Consequently, agricultural water supplied area has increased up to 13 765 ha, while drained area has reached 4 450 ha.
