Rehabilitation of irrigation schemes
The Ministry of Agriculture and United Amelioration Systems Company of Georgia continue rehabilitation of irrigation and drainage canals.
Levan Dvali-Director of United Amelioration Systems Company of Georgia inspected rehabilitation works on the distribution canal of Zemo Samgori upper main canal.
Within the rehabilitation cleaning works are being carried out on the canal which will be lined with reinforced concrete canalets. This will facilitate to the reduction of water loss. “Due to rehabilitation works already performed up to 200 ha of agricultural land plots of the villages Sartichala and Martkopi under Gardabani municipality will be fully irrigated. Within the framework of modernization of amelioration schemes rehabilitation works are being performed simultaneously on 35 items all over Georgia”-Levan Dvali said.
The aforementioned works being carried out by own resources of United Amelioration Systems Company of Georgia have been initiated in September, 2014 and will be completed by the end of October, 2014.
Zemo Samgori main canal is multi-functional. It feeds the Tbilisi Sea and has irrigation and energy (HPPs) purposes. The Tbilisi Sea water is used for the city water supply. There are 9 tunnels (total length 6 km) on the main canal.
Zemo Samgori irrigation scheme starts from the village Paldo with the headworks on the Iori River and flows into Tbilisi Reservoir (The Tbilisi Sea). Via the aforementioned scheme irrigation water is supplied up to 10 000 ha of agricultural land plots of Gardabani municipality.
