Rehabilitation works were carried out on the drainage canal adjacent to the main canal of Zemo Alazani irrigation scheme, in the village of Matani, Akhmeta municipality. A 2.5 k long reach was cleaned from vegetation, metal culverts were installed and operational road was arranged.

New drainage-collecting and irrigation canal was excavated facilitating to the irrigation of additional 350 ha of land area. As a result of the works, capacity and depth of the newly arranged main canal section increased.

In parallel, anti-leakage arrangements were undertaken on different sections of Zemo Alazani main canal that shall exclude further possible landslide of the area.

Rehabilitation works of the drainage canal adjacent to Zemo Alazani main canal were carried out by “Georgian Amelioration” ltd under the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture.
