Population of Shida Kartli will benefit from the rehabilitated Tashiskari irrigation scheme
"Georgian Amelioration" Ltd has been prepared for the 2021 irrigation season. The population of Shida Kartli will be served by the rehabilitated Tashiskari irrigation scheme. Water has been released into the repaired scheme.
“Georgian Amelioration” has rehabilitated Tashiskari irrigation scheme in Khashuri municipality.
Within the framework of the project, significant part of the canal has been lined with reinforced concrete, water pipes installed in the villages of Kvishkheti, Tezeri and Bekami have been cleaned from sediment, various types of hydraulic structures have been arranged, existing bridges have been repaired and damaged gates replaced.
The works carried out will facilitate to the improvement of irrigation water supply on several thousand hectares of agricultural land area in Khashuri and Kareli municipalities.
The cost of the project amounts to GEL 800 thousand.
Otar Shamugia-Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture and David Tsitlidze -General Director of “Georgian Amelioration” Ltd. have got acquainted with the works performed and met with local population.
"Arrangement and development of amelioration schemes is one of our priorities, as each irrigated area means an opportunity for our farmers to produce better quality agricultural products and earn more income. That’s why each year we spend significant funds on rehabilitation of amelioration schemes. This year, about GEL 90 million will be spent on rehabilitation and operation arrangements of irrigation and drainage schemes, which will facilitate to the improvement of irrigation water to thousands of hectares and increase of water supplied area."- Otar Shamugia said.
Tashiskari irrigation scheme originates in the village of Akhaldaba, through the headworks arranged on the Kura River. Under this scheme, up to 7,000 hectares of agricultural land in Khashuri and Kareli municipalities are supplied with irrigation water.
